Agnews Transforms Desktop Deployment into a Strategic Advantage with its
New Delivery Infrastructure
Provision Networks Helps One of the UK’s Most
Distinguished Motor Retailers with Rapid Application and Desktop
Provisioning
October 24, 2006 – Reston, VA -- Provision Networks, the
global provider of server-based access infrastructure solutions for the
Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Windows Terminal Server platform, today announced,
that Isaac Agnew (holdings) Ltd. has deployed the Provision Management
Framework® for enterprise application and desktop delivery, transforming its
corporate desktop infrastructure into task-based devices, lowering its total
cost of ownership and better aligning the IT infrastructure with the
business needs for a greater competitive advantage.
The Provision Management Framework (PMF), Enterprise Edition is a
full-featured application delivery and access infrastructure solution that
leverages the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 platform, and delivers anywhere,
anytime, anyhow access to applications and network resources. Enterprise
features such as Seamless Windows, Application Publishing, Load Balancing,
Access Control, a Web Portal and an SSL Gateway embrace the RDP protocol and
enhance the deployment, manageability, performance, and security of Terminal
Services environments of all sizes.
Agnews is one of the UK’s most distinguished automotive retailers, with 940
employees across 17 locations in Northern Ireland representing the world’s
best automobile brands including Porsche, Audi, BMW, Mercedes Benz, Volvo,
Saab, and Honda among others.
“We needed the ability to scale our business without increasing desktop
support costs,” said Gary Parkinson, IT Director with Agnews. “With over 600
network PCs across 17 motor retail locations, we needed to deploy quickly,
securely, and efficiently, new bespoke vehicle manufacturer applications to
a standard desktop, regain control of those desktops, and turn them into
simple task-based tools, ensuring that the user experience is fast,
productive, secure and above all an asset to the individual job functions,”
added Mr. Parkinson.
Agnews considered a variety of alternatives including Citrix Presentation
Server 4.0 and ran several proofs of concept before selecting the Provision
Management Framework. The retailer cites Provision’s interface, ease of use,
“second to none” technical support, and the all-encompassing platform among
its chief criteria for selection.
Agnews found new ways to leverage the Provision Management Framework and
further increase its return on investment. One such example is Provision’s
seamless integration with Microsoft’s SoftGrid platform, enabling the
retailer to quickly sequence a new application and deploy it during the
workday without the need for lengthy regression testing.
Mr. Parkinson continued to say that “Provision Networks offers a wonderful
platform that has helped make the deployment and control of our user base a
much easier experience. The ability to handle a multitude of essential
functions, such as profile management and acceleration, within the Provision
platform means that the skill set required from the IT staff is not
fragmented across different applications.”
