Brightstar Improves Business Agility and Reduces Total Cost of Ownership
with New IT Application Delivery Infrastructure
Wireless Industry’s Foremost Supply Chain and Value
Added Distribution Company Standardizes on Provision Networks Access
Solutions
August 31, 2006 – Reston, VA -- Provision Networks, the
global provider of server-based access infrastructure solutions for the
Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Windows Terminal Server platform, today announced,
that Brightstar has deployed the Provision Management Framework® for its
enterprise IT application delivery, enabling employees regardless of
location or network connectivity to securely access corporate IT network
resources and applications on demand.
The Provision Management Framework (PMF), Enterprise Edition is a
full-featured application delivery and access infrastructure solution that
leverages the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 platform, and delivers anywhere,
anytime, anyhow access to applications and network resources. Enterprise
features such as Seamless Windows, Application Publishing, Load Balancing,
Access Control, a Web Portal and an SSL Gateway embrace the RDP protocol and
enhance the deployment, manageability, performance, and security of Terminal
Services environments of all sizes.
Brightstar is the world’s leading distribution and supply chain solutions
company for the wireless industry, and operates over 40 facilities in more
than 30 countries. In 2005, the Miami, Florida-headquartered company posted
revenues in excess of $2.25 billion.
“Brightstar is experiencing rapid growth, with new data centers in
Australia, India, and the Caribbean,” said Tony Escarpenter, IT Director
with Brightstar. “To support this growth, it is critical we are able to
deploy applications rapidly without sacrificing any control or security over
our data,” continued Mr. Escarpenter.”
Brightstar tested two server-based computing solutions before selecting the
Provision Management Framework. Brightstar chose to standardize on the
Provision Networks solution for its ease of use, installation, printer and
profile management, as well as its lower total cost of ownership.
Brightstar is using PMF – Enterprise Edition to deploy a variety of
web-based applications as well as Microsoft Dynamics and FRx. “We are
leveraging the Provision web interface, built-in SSL support, and
integration with Secure Computing’s two-factor authentication solution, to
deploy our applications securely to remote locations and employees,” added
Mr. Escarpenter.
Brightstar has also eliminated the need for the various VPN layers it had
been deploying and is now able to provision and deliver applications on the
fly to remote users even over low-bandwidth connections.
