Anderson Union High School District Streamlines
Application Deployment, Provisioning and Access
School District Standardizes on Provision Networks
Access Solutions
September 23, 2005 – Anderson, California. Provision Networks, the
global provider of server-based access infrastructure solutions for the
Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT) Windows Terminal Server platform, today announced that
the Anderson Union High School District (AUHSD) in Northern California has
adopted the Provision Management Framework™
for its enterprise application deployment, provisioning and access.
The Provision Management Framework (PMF), Enterprise Edition is a full-featured
access infrastructure solution that leverages the Microsoft Windows Server 2003
platform, and delivers anywhere, anytime access to applications and network
resources. Enterprise features such as Seamless Windows, Application
Publishing, Load Balancing, Access Control, a Web Portal and an SSL Gateway
embrace the RDP protocol and enhance the deployment, manageability,
performance, and security of Terminal Services environments of all sizes.
With 2,400 students and 200 faculty members across six campus sites and a
district office, desktop management, application deployment, and access
accounted for a significant portion of the support efforts by the IT group.
Working with Emergent OnLine (www.EmergentOnLine.com), one of the most
experienced server-based computing consultancies in the world, AUHSD
implemented a centralized application access, management, and deployment
infrastructure based on the Provision Management Framework. AUHSD had initially
attempted to deploy a Tarantella solution which failed to work satisfactorily
and considered a Citrix solution which was dismissed as too costly. Emergent
OnLine, an unbiased integrator, presented the alternatives and worked closely
with AUHSD to get their new infrastructure in production before the new school
season started.
“We couldn’t be happier with this new infrastructure,” said Aaron Zimmerman,
Director of IT with AUHSD. “Provision Networks has allowed us to centralize our
application access and management infrastructure, and has drastically reduced
on-going desktop support costs.”
The Provision Networks infrastructure deployed at AUHSD consists of eleven
Windows 2003 Terminal Servers running the Enterprise Edition of the PMF to
deliver a variety of educational, tutoring, and productivity applications,
including Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook and Lotus Notes. Centralized
applications are accessible from any of the school district’s six campus sites
and one district office. All student labs and faculty offices are equipped with
a mixture of HP thin clients and desktop computers. The school was also able to
take advantage of its prior investment in several Sun Ray 170 ultra thin
clients, using rdesktop and connecting through Provision Networks’ Proxy-IT
gateway.
“The education segment is in dire need of cost-effective, yet feature-rich
access management and deployment solutions,” said Mike Moore, Vice President of
Sales with Provision Networks. “We are happy that our industry leading
solutions are being adopted worldwide at leading organizations such as AUHSD.”
Commenting further on his implementation at AUHSD, Mr. Zimmerman said: “The
simplicity of the interface is a wonderful advantage. However the richness of
the features is what sold me. The granularity of application publishing, being
able to map printers based on device name, and the intelligent load balancing
make this server-based computing system so superior. Next we plan on
implementing Web-IT and Secure-IT to allow our students and faculty secure
remote access into the system from anywhere, anytime, over any connection, as
well as MetaProfiles-IT to manage complex profile configurations.”
